ABOUT

ED SHORT:

Mr. Short is a graduate of UC Davis with a B.S. degree in engineering with an emphasis on building design, College of Sequoias with an A.A. in Architecture/Engineering, American River College with an A.A. in engineering, Master’s in governance CSBA-California School Board Association, a licensed Professional Engineer in California, credentialed building official (CALBO) and a CFM-certified flood manager (ASFPM). He served as a private consulting engineer in the municipal services industry for small to large corporations, where he has obtained extensive experience in business development, served as building official for multiple jurisdictions, managed building inspectors, engineers, permit technicians, and plan examiners in the regulatory compliance field for many years.

Mr. Short has over 35 years of successful experience in all aspects of the construction industry and municipal services—private residential, commercial, municipal utility and public works projects. As a private municipal consultant, Mr. Short has served as a Fire Marshall/Public Works Director/City Engineer/Building Official/Regional Code Compliance Manager. Mr. Short served as president for County Building Officials Association of California.

As a resident of Northern California, Mr. Short is familiar with the region’s and California’s economic development. He takes personal ownership in helping with the success of the community. He also has 20 years of experience as a trustee for the Folsom Cordova Unified School District with 2000 employees and an approximate annual operating budget of 260 million dollars. This has given Mr. Short the opportunity to develop excellent school board governance, public relations, large budgets, communication skills, strategic planning, policy/procedure development and implementation, personnel management, labor relations, and general governmental administrative experience. Mr. Short’s broad-based experience has helped him develop strong leadership skills and a “work hard” ethic. This extensive experience also has taught him that dedication and perseverance help to successfully develop and implement complex visions and goals for a large school district K-12. Lastly, Mr. Short’s extensive experience is the right fit to help achieve the vision and goals the school district is pursuing.

During the last couple decades Mr. Short has been involved in many community activities while he worked in his career. The following has been his Civil involvement; presently serving his fifth term on the Folsom Cordova Unified School District Governing Board and has served three times as President of the School Board, Measure P & N Steering Committee, Measure B Oversight Committee, California School Boards Association, Delegate Assembly for CSBA, Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Congressional Recognized Honorary Vice Mayor of Rancho Cordova Community Council, Member of the Sacramento Tax League and Rancho Cordova Community Council, Home Owner’s Association Board, Friends of Mather Regional Park Board.

Mr. Short has lived in the Rancho Cordova community area for over 30 years. He helped with the City of Rancho Cordova’s incorporation. He ran on a slate with the city incorporation ballot.
